Challenge #3

Write a love letter to fandom. It might be to fandom in general, to a particular fandom, favourite character, anything at all.

I was an outsider at school, never really belonged. But when I found fandom, I could be part of a community. It gave me a reason to start writing (hello, fan fiction) and a reason to do art (hello, fan art). I made friends through fandom, some of whom I've known for years now.

When one of my old schools advertised a school reunion recently, I flinched in horror and stayed away.

I would rather go to a sci-fi convention, even if I didn't know anyone there. But I would definitely have more fun.

Totally! I have never been to a reunion.

When I finished school, it was such a relief.

I always felt I was an alien, but I did have a group of friends I called the Out Group who role-playing games with me. That's the only way I can be a leader, is setting up RPGs or, as a smaller kid, pretend games.

To me, life just kept getting better from uni on.

BTW thanks for your card, which arrived a couple of days ago. :D

I'm glad you had the Out Group. There was no role playing at my high school, you were expected to join a sports team and play at lunch. I became a librarian instead.

I share your feelings on school reunions and conventions! I've never been to any of the School Reunion equivalents, even college; I have been to a convention and had a great time. Fandom's a great community.
