Well, the weather is up and down - some days it's t-shirt weather (hooray!) and then the next day it's put on those extra layers again. Sigh. How did it get to being December tomorrow? Some Dr Who trickery involved, I'm sure.

*whirring sounds*

TV I've Watched

I've finally caught up watching S3 of 'The Mandalorian' and I really liked it - the last few episodes made me feel happy about Star Wars again. I'm sure I've said I sometimes view the recent movie trilogy as fan fic because of *spoilers* what happened to the original cast. Must watch the new Dr Who special.

What I've Read

I loved the book 'The Fourth Wing' but after reading the sequel 'Iron Flame' I sadly felt the wheels fall off for me after the half way mark. I'm not sure how much I will be looking forward to the next book.

A new genre bookshop has recently opened in my city (hooray) and I went and bought 'All the Seas in the World' by Guy Gavriel Kay. Ah, it's so nice to have a good range of SFF books to look at again, instead of the familiar 'one whole shelf of those few for SFF must be taken up with multiple copies of Wheel of Time because there's no other SFF authors out there, ha ha' attitude that other places have.

Anyway, so this book by GGK is set during Renaissance Europe, but set on a world with two moons and there's magic too. He's written other books set in this alternate Earth, the best being the two Sarantine Mosaic books, set in alternate Eastern Roman Empire. They will break your heart at places though, so be warned.

What I've Seen

I haven't seen any movies for a while but 'Napoleon' is trying to get my attention. I've always had a soft spot for Joaquin Phoenix and I think I would almost be looking out for time-traveling Bill and Ted to nab him mid-battle for their school history assignment (Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure).

We had daylight saving last week with the clocks turned back an hour. The mornings are lighter again, but the suddenly darker evenings always take some getting used to. My electric blanket is being used again and so is my scarfs.

So, new Star Wars trailer. Looks interesting! The title 'Rise of Skywalker' has been debated a lot and could refer to: a) The new title of Force users, b) A  new spaceship (Sir, the Skywalker is approaching! Run away!) or c) Angry at being fridged* in 'Attack of the Clones' the ghost of Shmi Skywalker is back for vengeance.

I recently saw and enjoyed the film 'Woman at War' which is (deep breath) an Icelandic eco-thriller comedy. Featuring a middle-aged Katniss Everdeen-type character in sensible jumpers with her bow and arrow. Lovely landscape. Subtitled of course.

*When a female character is killed to further the storyline of a man. I saw this in a book trilogy once, the main character was a woman - no, sorry, she has to go because the trilogy is really about a minor male character who turns up. I didn't read the third book.

This is *not* the Star Wars cake you are looking for... *facepalms*

Brr, it was a cold winter morning, only 4 degrees C. Do Not Like, etc, etc.  It did warm up eventually to be able to walk outside comfortably. Yesterday was stormy with attack!rain every ten minutes (or so it felt).

I went to see 'Solo' in the weekend (no spoilers) and got a cheap ticket, yay. It was ok - not as good as Rogue One, but with some good moments. Imperial recruitment ads use a upbeat version of the 'Imperial March' - who knew?  I did giggle at Lando's walk-in wardrobe of capes on the Falcon... one of them was used to put out a fire! Poor Lando.

Well, I finally got to see 'The Last Jedi' the other day with a friend. Lots of feels. I won't give away any spoilers, but say that one character just *had* to have a shirtless scene, didn't he. Dear me.

It's quite a hot summer here in Auckland-land at the moment - we set a record this December by having 16 days in a row where it was at least 25 degrees C / 80 degrees F. Whew. Last Sunday I went to a BBQ put on by a sci-fi group I go to. A good time was had and there was laughter when we realised that lots of people had turned up with cheesecake (mmm). We played Evil Secret Santa and I ended up with a Star Wars mug with sweets. Yum.

Christmas will be a quiet one with my folks - Mum is recovering from an op and I've got my monthly right now, so it will be eating a nice lunch then lying around / watching tv / sunbathing maybe.

Hope the F-list has a Merry Christmas.

Well, I definitely know it's spring because of the hayfever I've been getting. Luckily I have stuff to take for it.

Today is 'Force Friday II' which means new Star Wars stuffs in the shops. I had a look and bought a little figure of Rey, which can go next to my small soft toy Rey. :D Still didn't see an actual working lightsabre - a purple one would go nicely with my wardrobe. Hee.

There is a new article on Mugglenet.com about the meaning of your Patronus. Now, when I took the test, I ended up with a shrew Patronus, which made me go 'whut?' I did find an explanation of mine which said among other things - "Their deadly bite is a perfect counteract to a Dementor's Kiss". Well, OK then.

Well, this year my birthday fell on Easter Sunday. I went out to lunch with my folks to a cafe that luckily was open. I was given some slippers, some skincare products and a butterfly pendant. Oh, and chocolate. I will catch up with some friends this week and next week.

The weather has been fine, but there's that chill in the air that warns it is autumn and will be getting colder.

I've been watching the third season of Brit crime drama 'Broadchurch', with the final episode this Sunday. I just love David Tennant in one of the lead roles, barking orders in his (natural) Scottish accent. The new season of Doctor Who started yesterday... ooh, new companion. Still miss Clara, a bit.

Will be buying DVD of 'Rogue One'. Not sure about buying one of 'Fantastic Beasts' - I loved watching it at the movies, but not quite enough to buy my own copy. I'll see.
