July means winter Down Under and recently it has been cold. Last week I think it was, it dropped down to 2 c / 34 F one night and that was a bit horrible for me despite all the layers on my bed. I couldn't cope with colder temperatures than that. If it snows, don't go has been my life long motto.

My work has been busy as it's school holidays. In the gift shop they have I've got one of my landscape paintings up for sale. I also have some greeting cards with my art on for sale as well; I've sold two cards so far so that's great.

I feel sorry for Australia at the moment; New South Wales is having trouble with a bad Covid outbreak and Sydney has been in lockdown.

I've got book club on Sunday; the subject is books or authors beginning with 'C'. I might bring along 'Cold Comfort Farm' which is always good for a chuckle, as well as 'Chalice' by Robin McKinley which is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast; the heroine has honey-based magic.

My laptop's hard drive broke down a little while ago and it needed a complete replacement. I lost some files unfortunately because I hadn't backed them up, urgh. Of course this happened just before season 5b (5b!) of 'Lucifer' came out on Netflix so I had to wait a week before my laptop came back before I could watch the episodes. It started off a bit slow and then really got going. When he's not going through angst and anguish, Lucifer gives the impression he's actually a golden retriever in disguise who loves his Detective. Aww. I wrote some fanfic after the season final which is up on A03.

There is an English woman on YouTube doing vlogs of Babylon 5 and is getting quite excited as she's working her way through season 2. Heh heh.

There is a cold south-wester outside at the moment so am staying indoors as much as possible.

Well, I've got a new part time admin job that I started last month. It's only a volunteer role, sadly, but it could lead to something more in the future. Anyway, it's honest work that can go on my CV. It's at a place where I help out at reception and with their gift shop, so I'm learning How to Retail. There's an automatic door near where I sit, which is good as this keeps air circulating.

In regards to COVID, New Zealand is at Level One, which means wear a mask on public transport and planes. There were some community cases of COVID in the CBD a few weeks ago, so I've been avoiding it ever since for now. That's a shame, as it has shops and a park I like.

It's the start of summer and my seasonal allergies have been bad lately, which I'm taking stuff for. The weather must think it's spring again as we've been having howling winds and surprise rainstorms - probably a good thing as we've been under water restrictions for most of the year after last summer's drought. It's supposed to be a wettish summer which will probably also be a good thing, so any days of sunshine will be a bonus, I suppose.

In October I took part in 'Snapetober 2020' on Tumblr which featured daily prompts you could write / produce art for. I wrote a few short stories which I've posted at my A03 account.

Happy Midsummer to those in the Southern Hemisphere (and Happy Midwinter to those up North). Summer got going here about a week ago and it's nice to be back in t-shirts.

My part time job doesn't need me back until the second week of January, so that's nice. I'm not going on holiday, but might do some local things like going to a beach for the day.

Christmas will be a low-key one with my folks.

Am looking forward to the upcoming fandom 'Snowflake Challenge'. I've been doing them for a few years now and it's always fun. For newbies, every day from January 1 - 15 there is a fandom question (i.e. name three favourite fan fictions you have written). You don't have to answer each question, though. There's Yuletide as well to look forward to. :D

Update

It was a foggy late winter morning today, as in 'uh, should the fog be that close to the house?'. The first cherry trees to flower have done so, daffodils and magnolia trees are in bloom too.

My part-time secretarial job was made redundant recently, which I'm a bit sad about. I had my own small office with a door I could close when I wanted to. So after three years I'm job hunting again. I had a part-time job interview the other day, which seemed to go ok. *crosses fingers*

My mum had her birthday recently and we went a few hours south on the motorway to a tea plantation with a restaurant that serves lovely food. Afterwards we went to the city of Hamilton nearby and went to the museum that had a Jane Austen exhibition, where they had replica outfits that the characters in her novels would have worn. A few things were pointed out as genuine, such as a long pashmina-type shawl. Some very delicate genuine items were kept in glass cabinets, such as a white silk wedding dress. It did look very small though (maybe it had shrunk?) and I kept thinking 'how tall was she??'.
